Getting started

From install to your first fix in about two minutes. You’ll need the Google account you use for Merchant Center.

  1. Pin Merchant Guard to your toolbar

Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, find Merchant Guard and click the pin. Its shield icon now sits next to the address bar.

  2. Open the side panel

Click the Merchant Guard icon. It opens in Chrome’s side panel and stays open as you move between tabs, so you can keep Merchant Center open alongside it.

Prefer a shortcut? Right-click the icon and choose “Open side panel”, or open Chrome’s side panel menu and pick Merchant Guard.

  3. Connect Google

Choose Connect Google and pick the Google account you use for Merchant Center. Google shows exactly what Merchant Guard can do; approve it to continue.

Scanning only reads your account. Nothing changes until you review a fix and press Apply. If Google shows “Access blocked”, see this help article.

  4. Choose your account and scan

If you manage more than one Merchant Center account, pick one at the top of the panel. Merchant Guard scans it and shows your health score, how many products are disapproved or limited, and the issues ranked by impact.

  5. Fix your first issue

Choose Fix next to an issue. Merchant Guard gathers the correct values from your website, Shopify or a spreadsheet, and shows each one next to the current value. Check them, tick “I’ve checked these values” and choose Apply.

On the Free plan you can fix your first 5 products this way. Every fix is logged in Tools, Fix history, with one-click undo.

  6. Switch on the account-level fixes

On the Home tab, look for Automatic item updates and Website claim. Turning these on takes one click each and prevents the most common disapprovals from coming back.

  7. Ask the assistant anything

Open the Assistant tab and ask in your own words, for example “why did my disapprovals go up this week?” or paste an error from Merchant Center. It reads your account to answer and can prepare fixes for you to approve.

  8. Keep watch while you’re away

On Pro, turn on 24/7 monitoring and Merchant Guard checks your account on a schedule and emails you when something new goes wrong. Shopify stores can also connect Shopify so fixes use your real store data.
